Vivienne x Asos

The collection Vivienne Westwood for Asos

was handmade in Nairobi. Recycled canvas,

repurposed roadside signs and leather cut-offs.

Then again, Vivienne Westwood is not your typical fashion designer.

The collection, which features totes, backpacks and a zipped clutch, was

crafted by Kenyan women living below the poverty line. Westwood is the

latest in a line of designers embracing sustainable production in Africa.

Sass & Bide, Maiyet, Edun and Suno are some of the other labels employing

artisans in developing countries to promote self-sufficient economies. The

Vivienne Westwood Ethical Africa collection will be available

on Asos this month.
