For the second year Olivier Saillard has invited
the actress Tilda Swinton to appear in a piece of
performance art, part of the 42nd Paris Fall Festival.
In a global and connected world where information is instantly available,
fashion is more up-to-speed than ever. Designers release perhaps six
collections a year, creating an almost uninterrupted flow of fashion season
after season. The idea of this fast-paced and demanding rhythm has
inspired Eternity Dress, Tilda Swinton‘s perfomance for the 42nd
Fall Festival, overseen by Olivier Saillard for Paris’ Beaux-Arts art
school. From the taking of measurements to the final assembly, the
performance breaks down the creation of a dress step by step with no
part of the process forgotten, allowing viewers a rare moment of quiet
reflection in the fast-paced world of fashion. Designed according to
standardized techniques used in couture schools in the 1950s and 1960s,
Eternity Dress casts light on the less visible side of fashion, acting
as a symbol for dresses designed the world over. It’s an opportunity
to think about design expertise, reconnecting the natural rhythm of
creation with excellence, inseparable from the idea of time itself.
Eternity Dress by Olivier Saillard and Tilda Swinton will be on show
from November 20 to 24 at Paris’ Beaux Arts, 16 rue Bonaparte, 75006 Paris.
