 10 July 2013 – 16 February 2014

 Victoria and Albert Museum, London

Revisit the biggest trends of the 1980s, as a retrospective

of London’s underground clubbing style goes on show at

London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, exploring the impact

the scene had on the runway fashion of the era.

From July 10 to February 14 at London’s V&A Museum,

take a look back at the impact the the city’s 1980s club scene

had on the world of fashion with Club to Catwalk: London

Fashion in the 1980s. All of the 1980s hallmarks are analyzed

and explained, from punk rocker mohicans and peroxide crew

cuts, to the obligatory shoulder pads, cropped denim jackets and

psychedelic prints worn by idols of the decade such as Boy George

and Adam Ant and clubbers at London venues like Taboo, Blitz

and Camden Palace. The exhibition is set over two floors, with

more than 85 looks from designers including John Galliano

and Vivienne Westwood, along with clubwear from the period.

On the first floor, visitors can plunge into the club atmosphere of

underground Eighties nightlife as it existed in East London, while

the second floor will showcase specific trends from the decade,

including Goth, fetish wear, New Romantic, High Camp and

rave culture. Summer-long nostalgia, in the birthplace of many

of these cult trends.
