Special event/press preview on the 28th of May

The Fondazione Prada will presents the exhibition “When

Attitudes Become Form: Bern 1969/Venice 2013″ curated by

Germano Celant in dialogue with Thomas Demand and Rem

Koolhaas. From the 1st June until the 24th November 2013,

the Venetian palace Ca’ Corner della Regina will be home to a

project aiming to reproduce the 1969 exhibition “Live in Your

Head. When Attitudes Become Form” by Herald Szeeman.

In 1969 the Kunsthalle in Bern was occupied by young revolutionary

artists (among them Joseph Beuys) exploring, in a dialectical encounter

with the curator, a new approach to art and architecture, characterised by

liberating and interactive processes, overcoming preconceived boundaries.

The 1969 exhibition will be entirely recreated – walls, floors, installations

and original art objects – in the ancient halls of the Venetian palazzo.

This literal superposition of spaces will generate new and unexpected

spatial and artistic relations at multiple levels. Conscious of the temporal

and historical divide, the idea is to give the possibility to re-experience,

just as it was but in a new present form, the 1969 exhibition.

The importance of the curator’s role as a modern and contemporary art

founding element will be underlined. The aim of this remarkable grafting

project is to explore the physical and conceptual horizons of visual language

through the revisitation of Post-Pop and Post-Minimalist Art research of the

time, developed in the mid-1960s. In doing so, Herald Szeemann’s major role

as a radical and innovative curator is pointed out. Unpublished materials

from the Szeesmann archive will also be displayed.

A scientific volume will be published, “When Attitudes Become Form:

Bern 1969 Venice 2013″, including the complete collection of photographs

taken during the 1969 Bern exhibition and contributions by outstanding

international historians, theoreticians, curators and critics.
