66° Festival de Cannes

66° FESTIVAL DE CANNES

It was announced during the press conference in Paris

the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival 2013,

which will take place May 15 to 26.

Here some of the movies in competition.

This year’s event will be opened by Baz Luhrmann‘s Great Gatsby,

while presiding over the jury will be none other than Steven Spielberg.

Closing film will be Zulu, starring Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker,

and the godmother of the event will be Audrey Tautou, who will conduct

the ceremonies of opening and closing.

In addition, the big names “made of holliwood” confirmed are the

Coen brothers with the  film Inside Llewyn Davis, starring

Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Garret Hedlund

and Steven Soderbergh, with his Behind the Candelabra, which

sees the two star cast film such as Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

A challenge these directors symbol, we think Nicolas Winding Refn

(which was awarded in Cannes for its fantastic Drive) on the Croisette

bringing his new feature film, Only God Forgives played once again

by Ryan Gosling. For Italy there will be Paolo Sorrentino, who returns

to the Croisette with the film La grande Bellezza starring Toni Servillo as

well as Valeria Bruni Tedeschi that presents the film  A chateau en Italie.

The category “Un Certain Regard”  will open by The Bling Ring

by Sofia Coppola. The Bling Ring tells the real-life story of a group of

fame-obsessed teenagers who break into the houses of Hollywood celebrities.

“I am very happy to return to Cannes , after being in competition in 2006

with Marie Antoinette and having presented at the Quinzaine my first film,

The Virgin Suicides. And now I am proud to open the “Un certain regard”

for the first time showing my new film to the public. I’m looking forward to it. “

said Sofia Coppola. The “Un Certain Regard” section is part of the festival’s

official selection, and runs parallel to the main competition (where films

battle it out for the coveted Palme d’Or prize), instead featuring a selection

of original, unusual and often more obscure international productions.

In the same section, always behind the camera, there’s also James Franco,

with As I Lay Dying, Claire Danes with Les salauds and Valeria Golino

with Honey . The category has been part of the festival line-up since 1978.
