Bulgari celebrate Serpenti

Between February 9 and 28, Italian jeweler Bulgari will be paying

homage to its reptile motif by showing serpentine pieces

from the archive at its Fifth Avenue New York flagship.

“The serpent should be on every finger and all wrists and all everywhere…”

proclaimed Diana Vreeland. The all-powerful former editor-in-chief of

American Vogue loved to accessorize with reptilian pieces, wrapping

a Bulgari belt around her neck like a necklace in a nod to Elizabeth Taylor

circa Queen Cleopatra. From the early styles dating back to the 1940s

to today’s fine jewelry line, the list of women associated with the renowned

Serpenti collection by Bulgari reads like a who’s who of glamour.

As Chinese New Year leads us under the sign of the water snake,

Bulgari will open the doors of its Fifth Avenue flagship between

February 9 and 28 for Bulgari: Serpenti Collection, an exhibition

in celebration of the serpentine jewels and watches. From multi-colored

enamel skins to shimmering gold and diamond scales, the exhibition

is a definitive retrospective of pieces from one of the world’s most

iconic jewelry collections. Artist Fabien Illou decorated the facade of the store

with a lit-up Serpenti for the Holiday season, which will stay in place

throughout the show until March, when Marion Fassel’s book on

the collection is published by Assouline.
