150 years of the tube
Poster Art 150 – London Underground’s Greatest Designs
from 15 February – 27 October 2013
The London Transport Museum
Earlier this week saw the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, when the very first
train left Paddington station towards Farringdon beneath the streets of the capital.
To celebrate, we’re taking a look at the best events taking place throughout the year to honour the
historic milestone. This Sunday, and again on the 20th of January, the Met Locomotive
No. 1 will bring steam back to the underground.
Pulling along the Metropolitan Railway ‘Jubilee’ carriage No. 353, the exciting trip is taking
place to celebrate the inaugural passenger underground journey.
Following its debut graphic commission in 1908, London Underground has developed
a global reputation for commissioning fantastic poster designs. Kicking off next month
and running until October 2013, Poster Art 150 at the London Transport Museum
will showcase 150 of the best designs which have been selected by an independent panel.
