Les Vampires
a movie by Louis Feuillade, 1915

A real re-born for Louis Feuillade’s Les Vampires. Newly released on blu-ray from Kino Lorber, Les Vampires still one of the most avantgarde movies since his production year, 1915.

Feuillade’s movie seems to be a result of combining contemporary French pulp fiction with the Balzacian notion of secret societies.  A very unique vision, far from the horror/dark inspired movies we used to watch. Ran in France from november 1915 through June of 1916, Les Vampires’ plot is structrured on 10 episodes of varying lenghht.

His popularity, makes the movie itself  Feullillade’s most important work and focus the attention on her main character, Irma Vep played by famous actress Musidora.

Well known for her ferocious and outrageously beauty, Musidora play the leader of the gang

of nocturnal thieves who call themselves “The Vampires”.

Its hard to summerize the plot, every episode is plenty of twists and turns and master narrative was improvised by the director, memories of a movie era without script or adolescent actors.
